Ready for Beesness

Although the bee suits don’t get worn in the winter, keeping bees is a year round endeavor. My hubby has been busy all winter, scraping, cleaning, repairing, making and painting: hive bodies, frames, supers, tops, bottom boards, deeps and more. He is a great landlord for his bees and anticipates and prepares for when the new girls will arrive.

This year we had a good problem. Most of our bees survived. New packages for bees need to be ordered before we know how many hives survived the winter. The past few winters were pretty tough on our bees and so we ordered quite a few packages. Also, we always kept bees at my Dad’s farm. However, since his death, we needed to move those hives as the farm will be sold on May 16th. Does anyone want us to set up a few hives at your home? You will get honey rent that is from your own place—great for local allergies.

I don't think I realized how much time and work goes into preparing to get the bees. Thanks for sharing. Donna
