I did not get many responses except from one person that wondered, “Are you crazy?“
So I leaned on grandson, thirteen-year-old Grif writing him a letter while he was a camp, handpicking him because I thought he would be patient with me if I could not keep up with his speed.
I received a message on the answering machine when he returned, “You know what you asked me in the letter you sent? The answer is, ‘Yes’. Set it up with my mom and me.”
Today hubby would be in town and not traveling. I wanted to have someone on call in case of an emergency—not expecting any but trying to be a good cautious grandma. Pride goes before a fall. With about a mile left on our ride, I went over a curb. After quickly getting up, I thanked God for His grace . . . over and over.
Grif more than proved his value as my biking partner by his conversations, patience and encouragement and his aptitude at putting the chain back on my bike.
Grif led, I followed. I walked up a few hills that Grif peddled. We both felt the thrill of speed as we went down hills.
We shared a nice lunch together at Shane's Deli in Wheaton.
We had beautiful scenery along a river and lakes. We enjoyed seeing birds and chipmunks, squirrels and rabbits.

I'm proud of you, Brenda....and what a grandson you have!! Give him an extra kiss and hug from me. It sounds like a trip that neither of you will ever forget...beautiful scenery, good food, great company, and hopefully, you will recover quickly from your falls. I think the entire trip was terrific, and I'm glad you got photos along the way!
I think you have a wonderful grandson. I think he has a wonderful grandmother.
Smiles,
Jackie
Again you impress me Brenda! I must get out and ride, even though I have been known to run into things! I'm glad you had such a wonderful day with your grandson!
Battle scars or not you have happiness written all over your face...I would have gone with you Brenda...:) if only we lived closer...2 grammas traveling the bike trails.
As grandsons age, it is so loving how the "protectiveness" switches from grandparent to grandchild.
After breaking an ankle once, it was my grandson who picked me up and carried me.
I loved your daring adventure Brenda...it keeps you young!
Wow! I can't believe you did that--well actually, yes I can! You are amazing! Lynn has offered to get out a bike he has and fix it up for me. Now I may just be inspired enough to have him do it.
Grif is great! What a great day.

I'm impressed - though not in the sense of being "imprinted"! I will probably NOT be doing 35 mile bike rides. Especially since my bike has only one speed. I'd never make it up hills of any size. This was a great idea & project. A good one to share with grown up grandchildren! I have a few years to come up with something.
Brenda...way to go. What a great way to spend time with your grandson. To answer your question, no I am not skinny, but yes I am athletic. The good Lord blessed me with a strong body & mind so I could enjoy God's gifts.
I am thrilled that you biked all that way....and see, you survived! If you put your mind and body to it, you can achieve. The soreness always goes away in a day or two.
Thank you so much for visiting my blog today. As you can tell biking is something that is special to me and my hubby.
I encourage you to get out on your bicycle whenever possible and enjoy the nature around you. I hope your grandson takes an interest in cycling even when he's older.
